When to change vs. rekey a lock

Change the lock when the hardware itself is failing — the deadbolt sticks, the handle wobbles, the cylinder is rusted, or you want to upgrade to a smart lock or higher-security keyway. Rekey when the lock works fine but you want different keys (move-in, ex-tenant, lost key). Lock change runs $80-$160 standard ($180-$300 smart locks) and takes 20-30 minutes per door. Rekey runs $25-$45 per cylinder. We arrive at most Vancouver addresses in 20-30 minutes with Schlage, Kwikset, Weiser, Yale, Schlage Encode, and August smart locks in the van.

Our 4-step process

First, on the phone we identify your existing hardware (Schlage, Kwikset, Weiser, etc.) and door type so we bring the right replacement. Then a tech arrives within 20-30 minutes with the new lock plus matching strike plate and screws. Next, install — old hardware out, new hardware aligned, strike plate seated with 3-inch screws into the stud (a free upgrade we include because it doubles the kick-resistance). Finally, every key tested in every cylinder before we leave.

How long does it take?+
20-30 minutes per standard deadbolt, 30-60 minutes per smart lock (we test the app pairing and pin-code setup before leaving). Most homes have 1-3 exterior doors so a full house is 1-2 hours.
Should I change or rekey?+
Change when the hardware is failing, you want a smart lock, or you want a higher-security keyway. Rekey ($25-$45 per cylinder) when the lock works fine but you want different keys.
Do you carry every brand?+
