Vancouver guide

Safe & Secure serves Vancouver with mobile technicians in fully equipped vans, so the work is done at your door, building or site. Vancouver jobs are booked and quoted on the phone before anyone drives.

Vancouver is our home city, and each neighbourhood has its own kind of lock work. Downtown and Coal Harbour are towers and offices, the West End is older rental buildings, Yaletown is warehouse lofts and glass towers, Kitsilano is character houses split into suites, and Mount Pleasant is studios, workshops and townhouses. This page takes them one at a time, then lists the rest of the city.

Our walk-in shop at 4105 Macdonald St in Kitsilano is a short drive from Vancouver, for keys, hardware and advice over the counter. Jobs at your door are done by the same mobile technicians.

Locksmith service across Vancouver, neighbourhood by neighbourhood.

The five neighbourhoods below are detailed one by one, and the same vans work every other part of the city.

  • Downtown & Coal HarbourTowers, offices and ground floor retail
  • West End & Davie VillageOlder rental buildings and character houses
  • YaletownWarehouse lofts and glass towers
  • KitsilanoCharacter houses split into suites
  • Mount PleasantStudios, workshops and townhouses
  • Gastown & ChinatownHeritage buildings and storefronts
  • Fairview & South GranvilleLow-rise strata, clinics and shops
  • Commercial DriveHouses, shops and restaurants

Downtown and Coal Harbour

Downtown and Coal Harbour are concrete towers with fob lobbies, parkades and ground floor retail along Burrard, Georgia, Hastings, Robson, Granville and Seymour. The work splits three ways: suites re-keyed at tenant turnover, storefronts and offices with deadlatches, exit hardware and master keys, and strata common doors on restricted keyways so keys cannot be copied without authorisation.

West End and Davie Village

The West End is the densest rental neighbourhood in the city. Davie, Denman, Robson, Comox and Beach Avenue are mostly 1960s and 1970s low-rise and mid-rise rentals, with character houses on the side streets. One key for the lobby and one for the suite is the usual pattern, so a tenant change means a suite re-key, and a building with too many lobby keys out needs a restricted system with a registry.

Yaletown

Yaletown is warehouse conversions on Mainland, Hamilton and Homer, where heavy original doors carry mortise locks that are repaired or replaced rather than simply re-keyed, and glass towers on Pacific Boulevard and Marinaside with concierge desks, parkades and storage cages. It has its own page: locksmith in Yaletown.

Kitsilano

Kitsilano is pre-1940 character houses with original mortise hardware, houses split into upper and lower suites with their own entrances, duplexes and low-rise strata off West 4th and Broadway. Suite doors in converted houses are often the weak point, and a proper deadbolt and a re-key between tenants is most of the work here.

Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant is built around Main Street and Kingsway. West of Main it is brick warehouse and light industrial buildings full of studios, breweries and workshops; east of Main it is character houses and newer townhouses. A single block can need high-security cylinders on a workshop roll-up and a re-key on a townhouse door.

The rest of Vancouver

These five are the neighbourhoods this page details, not the limit of the coverage. The same vans work Gastown and Chinatown, Fairview and South Granville, Shaughnessy, Kerrisdale, Dunbar, Point Grey, Marpole, Oakridge, Commercial Drive and Hastings-Sunrise. For a car, see our automotive locksmith page; for a lockout, our emergency locksmith page.

Vancouver neighbourhood questions, answered.

Still unsure? Call 604-734-7233. A real person picks up.

Do you come to me in Vancouver?

Yes. Our mobile technicians work across Vancouver from fully equipped vans, so the work is done at your home, building or site.

How soon can you get to Vancouver?

It depends on where in Vancouver you are and where the van is, so you get the arrival time when you book. Bridges and downtown traffic are the variable, and we say so when we quote.

Do you cover my Vancouver neighbourhood?

Yes. The five neighbourhoods on this page are the ones we detail, and the same vans work Gastown, Chinatown, Fairview, Shaughnessy, Kerrisdale, Dunbar, Point Grey, Marpole, Commercial Drive and Hastings-Sunrise.

How much is a spare car key in Vancouver?

A transponder spare is $180-$240 and a smart key spare $300-$420, cut and programmed while you still have a working key.

Can you cut keys at my Vancouver address?

Yes. Most house and office keys are cut on the visit, and restricted keys are cut to code with the building or strata authorisation.

Can you get me back in if I am locked out in Vancouver?

Yes. Call us for the price and arrival time. Most modern locks are picked open without damage, and we check that you live or work there before opening. A home or business lockout is $80-$160.
