A mailbox lock replacement is $40-$140 fitted. That covers the new cylinder, the cam or clip that suits your compartment door, the keys and the fitting. The old key stops working the moment the old cylinder comes out. Extra keys are $5-$15 each, and a standalone visit in standard hours carries the $75 service call, quoted on the phone first.

Which mailbox do you actually have

Four things get called a mailbox in Vancouver, and which one you have decides who can change the lock: a box on your own wall or post, a lobby or parkade bank inside your building, a strata parcel locker, or a Canada Post community box on the street. We work on the first three.

Canada Post community mailbox

Freestanding street banks are Canada Post equipment, from the shell to the lock. For a lost key, a seized lock or a box that was forced, contact Canada Post directly. We cannot change or copy these locks.

Apartment bank

Each compartment door in a lobby bank carries a cam lock: a short cylinder with a flat arm that swings behind the frame. The cam's length and whether it turns 90 or 180 degrees decide which replacement fits, which is why we ask for a photo first.

On a tenant turnover we change the mailbox and rekey the suite in the same visit; the suite side is $25-$45 per cylinder on lock rekey.

Strata or parcel lockers

Parcel lockers, common entry cylinders and storage lockers are cheaper done together than one complaint at a time. We count the compartments, fit the cylinders, cut two keys each and hand over a written keying schedule. Work on a shared bank needs the strata council or the manager's OK.
