Mercedes-Benz key and fob replacement in Vancouver

Mercedes-Benz is the make people in this city search for most when they have lost a car key, and for years this page was not where they landed. It is now. We cut, program and hand over Mercedes keys at the vehicle: C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLA, GLC, GLE, GLS, the AMG variants, the Sprinter and Metris vans and the Smart cars.

Mercedes keys sit in the European luxury band at $400-$900 cut and programmed, alongside BMW and Land Rover. The reason is the immobiliser: a Mercedes key is not cloned, it is written into the car's own key table through the electronic ignition switch, and the older cars need the column lock handled as part of the job. All keys lost starts from $180 and lands in the same band once that work is counted.

We are a licensed shop at 4105 Macdonald St, working since 1992, and we reach most Vancouver addresses in 20 to 30 minutes. Nothing is towed and nothing is ordered in. Published figures are on the price list. If your car is not a Mercedes, the car key replacement page carries the cheaper transponder and proximity bands.

Mercedes-Benz models we cut and program

Every chassis family we carry blanks and programming for, and what each one needs.

C-Class

W203, W204, W205 and W206. The W203 and W204 are FBS3 cars, the W205 onward FBS4. The C-Class is the Mercedes we cut most keys for in Vancouver.

E-Class

W211, W212 and W213. The W211 is the chassis where an all-keys-lost job takes longest, because the electronic ignition switch and column lock have to be dealt with.

S-Class

W221, W222 and W223. FBS3 on the W221, FBS4 from the W222. Keyless-Go functions are tested with the finished key.

GLA, GLC, GLE and GLS

The SUV range follows the saloon it shares a platform with. GLC and GLE are the two we are called to most.

AMG variants and Smart

AMG cars use the same key system as the model they are based on. Smart ForTwo and ForFour are also covered.

FBS3 and FBS4

Mercedes runs its immobiliser as a generation, not a model. Knowing which one your car has is the difference between an hour and an afternoon.

FBS3

The older generation, on the W203 and W204 C-Class, the W211 and W212 E-Class and the W221 S-Class. The key is written through the electronic ignition switch. With one working key in hand a spare is straightforward. With no key at all the switch and the column lock become part of the job, which is what pushes an FBS3 all-keys-lost to the top of the band.

FBS4

The current generation, from the W205 C-Class, the W213 E-Class and the W222 S-Class forward, and on the whole recent SUV range. FBS4 is tighter by design. We program it at the vehicle with the proper equipment and we authenticate rather than work around the system, which keeps the car's security intact.

What we do to the key you lost

On either generation the missing key is deauthorised as part of the job, so whoever has it cannot start the car. That step is not optional and it is included.

The HU64 blade and rebuilding a Mercedes key

Mercedes keys are cut on the HU64 profile, a narrow internal-track blade that a standard key machine cannot touch. It is the reason a lot of shops turn Mercedes work away and the reason a hardware store cannot help you. We cut HU64 in house from the key code.

Rebuilding rather than replacing

Not every Mercedes key call needs a new key. A chrome fob that has split at the seam, a blade that has snapped out of the head, or a fob whose cells have leaked can often be rebuilt: we transfer the working electronics into a fresh shell and cut a new HU64 blade for it. That is a much smaller job than a fresh programming session and it is worth asking about before you replace anything.

Keys that were never right

We also see Mercedes keys cut elsewhere on the wrong blade depth that turn the door but not the ignition. Recutting to the correct code fixes that without touching the immobiliser at all. Ignition and column work is on the ignition repair page.

Sprinter and Metris

The Sprinter is a working vehicle and a lost key is a lost day. It is also the Mercedes we get asked about most by trades and delivery operators in Vancouver, usually phrased as needing someone who can come to the van rather than take it in.

Sprinter

Sprinter keys use the same HU64 blade and the same immobiliser generations as the cars. We cut and program at the kerb, at the depot or on the site, which matters when the van is loaded and cannot be moved. Fleet operators can have a documented set cut rather than a drawer of loose spares.

Metris

The Metris takes the same approach and the same equipment. Both vans sit in the European luxury band at $400-$900 cut and programmed, and both are handled without a tow.

Spares before they are needed

A second Sprinter key cut while the first still works is the single cheapest piece of fleet insurance there is, because nothing has to be recovered from the van when a key goes missing.

Cost

What a Mercedes-Benz key costs in Vancouver. Published figures only. A dealer replacement has to be fitted at the dealership, so a car that will not start needs a flatbed before it needs a key.

European luxury key, cut and programmed

$400-$900 for C, E and S-Class, the GL range, AMG variants, Sprinter and Metris. Same band as BMW and Land Rover.

Spare beside a working key

The cheaper path on any Mercedes, because the car does not have to give up its security data first.

All keys lost

From $180, landing inside the European band once the immobiliser work is counted. FBS3 cars with a column lock take longest.

Key rebuild

Where the electronics are sound we move them into a new shell and cut a fresh HU64 blade instead of programming a new key.

Service call

$75 in standard hours. After-hours labour starts at $150 from 5 to 9 pm and runs $250/hour from 9 pm to 8:30 am, quoted before we dispatch.

What a Mercedes key job looks like at the kerb

Call 604-734-7233 with the model, the year and the VIN, and say whether you still have a working key. That one answer decides the job. We confirm the immobiliser generation and quote before a van leaves the shop.

On site we verify ownership against the registration first, because creating a credential for a car is not something to do on trust. Then the HU64 blade is cut to code, the key is written into the vehicle, the lost key is deauthorised, and we test start, central locking, boot release and Keyless-Go where the car has it. You keep the car where it is the whole time.

Everything else automotive, including lockouts and ignition work, is on the automotive locksmith hub.
