A BMW slot key with lock, unlock and trunk buttons and a little release on the end is the one this replaces. The 3 Series and 5 Series of this period started by pushing the fob into the dash, and the car identifies the fob both by radio and by contact in the slot. The fob also hides a metal blade. Slide the release and it comes out of the end; this is the key for the driver's door when the battery is dead or the fob has stopped responding. It has no chip, so we cut it to your door lock on our code machine and slip it back in. Coding the fob is the larger part of the job. It is done with diagnostic equipment connected to the car, so we need the BMW present along with its registration and your photo ID. If you still have a working fob, the process uses it; if all fobs are gone, we originate a new one at the car.
