Automotive Keys 2012-2013 Kia Rio / 3-Button Flip Key Vancouver

The Rio of 2012 and 2013 came with a compact flip key: a fob with three buttons and a blade that snaps out on a spring when you press the release, then folds away flat. Locking, unlocking and the trunk are on the buttons, the immobiliser chip is inside the fob, and the blade turns the door and the ignition. Two model years is a narrow window, which usually means the part changed on either side of it, so check the year on your registration rather than matching by appearance. This is the complete flip key with the electronics fitted. A flip key shell is a different product: the hinged case, the spring and a blank blade, with no chip and no board, and it exists for the very common Rio problem of a hinge that has worn loose so the blade flops instead of locking open, or a release button that no longer catches. If your old key still starts the car, a shell with your board moved across and a fresh blade cut to match is the cheaper fix, and we do those at the bench. The complete key is for a lost key or a dead board. Kia shares its immobiliser family with Hyundai, and both are programmed with the same equipment we carry, so the Rio does not need to visit a dealership for this. With one working key, the new one is cut from it and registered in a short session. With none, the immobiliser data has to be recovered from the car first and the appointment is longer. Either way the car, the registration and your driver's licence need to be at 4105 Macdonald St in Vancouver, or with you at the roadside if we come out.
