Most calls within Greater Vancouver dispatch in 20-30 minutes from our 4105 Macdonald Street shop. North Shore averages 25-40 minutes; Surrey, Langley, and Maple Ridge are 40-60 minutes off-peak. We dispatch the closest available van and give you a real ETA on the call — not a 4-hour window.
Are you available 24/7?+
Yes. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. A real dispatcher answers the phone every time — no auto-attendant, no voicemail. Most after-hours calls are emergency lockouts and we treat them that way.
How much does a typical lockout cost?+
Home lockouts run $40-$80 in standard hours. Car lockouts $40-$80. After-hours emergency lockouts can run $80-$150 depending on time and location. We quote on the call before dispatching, so you know the price before the van leaves.
How much does it cost to rekey my locks?+
Standard rekeys are $25-$45 per cylinder for Schlage, Kwikset, and Weiser hardware. High-security restricted-keyway rekeys (Mul-T-Lock, Medeco, Schlage Primus) run $60-$120 per cylinder. Most 4-door homes are rekeyed in 60-90 minutes.
Are you licensed and insured?+
Yes. Safe & Secure Locksmith is licensed under the BC Security Programs Act, and every technician carries individual security worker certification. We are fully insured for liability and bonded. We provide proof of insurance to commercial clients and strata corporations on request.
Do you accept credit cards?+
Yes — Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Interac e-Transfer, and cash. Card payment is taken on-site by the technician with a wireless terminal. No cash-only or e-transfer-only situations on residential or commercial calls.
Can you make a car key without the original?+
Yes, for most vehicles. We decode the cut from the door cylinder or pull the original code by VIN, then program the transponder or smart key to your car's immobiliser. Bring registration or title — we verify ownership before cutting a car key. $180-$420 typical, depending on year, make, and key type.
Can you handle a lost-keys-only situation?+
Yes. All-keys-lost is one of the most common emergency calls we run. For a home, we use non-destructive entry to get you back inside, then rekey every cylinder so the lost keys no longer work. For a car, we cut and program a new key from scratch. Same visit either way.
Do you install smart locks?+
Yes — Schlage Encode, Yale Assure, August, Kwikset Halo. Most installs are 30-45 minutes including app onboarding and code setup. $240-$420 installed depending on model. We carry the popular ones in the van; we can order specific models in 1-2 days.
Do you do master key systems for stratas and businesses?+
Yes. We design, install, and maintain master key systems for residential stratas, office complexes, retail, restaurants, and small businesses across Greater Vancouver. Mul-T-Lock, Medeco, Abloy, and Schlage Primus restricted keyways. We provide written key registries and authorization controls for every system.
Can you replace a deadbolt today?+
In most cases, yes. We carry Schlage, Kwikset, Weiser, Yale, and high-security Mul-T-Lock cylinders in stock. Standard residential deadbolt replacements are $90-$180 installed; smart locks $240-$420. Same-day service is the default for residential calls placed before 6 PM.
Do you service safes?+
Yes — opening, combination changes, relocation, and installation for AMSEC, SentrySafe, Liberty, Hayman, Cannon, and similar. Home safes from $120; TL-15/TL-30 commercial safes from $250. Lockouts and forgotten combinations dispatch 24/7.
What if I lock myself out at 3 AM?+
Call 604-734-7233. The dispatcher answers, takes the address, gives an ETA, and sends a technician. Most after-hours lockouts are open within 30-45 minutes from your call. Card payment on-site, no extra trip fees beyond the standard after-hours rate quoted on the call.
Do you work on commercial panic bars?+
Yes. We install, repair, and maintain panic bars (push-bar exit devices), fire-rated hardware, and electric strikes for commercial buildings. Von Duprin, Falcon, Sargent, Dorma, and others. BC Fire Code compliance is part of every install.
Will rekeying void my lock's warranty?+
No. Rekeying by a licensed locksmith is a standard, manufacturer-supported procedure. We use OEM pin kits and follow the lock manufacturer's spec. Your warranty stays intact. The same is true for restricted-keyway cylinders — Mul-T-Lock and Medeco specifically authorize professional rekeying.
