Free home security inspection in Vancouver

We run a no-charge home security inspection for Greater Vancouver homeowners. A licensed locksmith walks the property: front, back, garage, basement entry and the ground-floor windows. The visit takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes on site.

There is no obligation and no script. If your hardware is sound we say so and leave. If three doors need a longer strike screw and one slider needs a secondary lock, that is what the report says. We would rather you knew where you stood than bought something you did not need.

Exterior doors and deadbolts. Bolt throw length, strike screw length, lock grade, key control, hinge pin position and weatherstripping. We open and close every door and test the throw rather than looking at it.

Windows and sliders. Ground-floor latch condition, secondary locks and glazing. On sliders we check track wear, lift-out resistance and whether there is a bar or a foot bolt. Patio doors get more attention because they are the most common forced entry point on a detached house.

Garage and basement entries. The man door between the garage and the house is the single most overlooked door on most homes. We check its deadbolt, its strike, the door material itself and the opener auto-close timer. Basement walk-outs get the same treatment.

Lighting and sightlines. Motion lighting front, side and back, lane lighting where there is a lane, and anything that creates a hidden approach such as an overgrown shrub or an unlit side passage.

You keep a written assessment listing what we found, ordered by what matters most, with a rough cost against each item so you can decide what to do and when.

Costs on the report come off the same price sheet as everything else: rekeys at $25-$45 per cylinder, lock changes at $80-$160 installed. Nothing on the report is a quote you have to accept, and none of it expires.

The common findings are dull and cheap: builder-grade strike plates held by half-inch screws, a deadbolt that does not fully throw, a slider with nothing in the track, and a garage man door on a passage set rather than a deadbolt.

Where a house is genuinely well protected we say so. Where the answer is a safe rather than a lock, that is on safes. Where it is a residential hardware upgrade, it is on residential locksmith. Either way the inspection itself stays free.
