The BMW flip key, and how we set one up.
The four-button flip key is an alternative to BMW's original fixed-blade remote key. The laser blade folds into the body when not in use, and the remote typically offers lock, unlock, trunk and panic. This listing covers cars from 2000 to 2009 and is close kin to our 1999 to 2009 flip key; which one you need depends on the board inside, not the outside. Flip keys are popular with people who disliked the long blade of the original key poking through a pocket, and with owners whose original case has fallen apart. The trade-off is a moving part: the blade hinge. Treat it kindly and it will last; slam it shut on a hard surface and the spring eventually tires. Programming follows the same sequence as any BMW key of this period. We cut the blade on our code machine, set the key up for the EWS immobiliser and register the remote. All of it is done with the car present, whether in our bay or wherever the car is parked. Before ordering, send us the VIN or ask us to confirm for your trim/year, so we can make sure this board, rather than its sibling, matches your car.
