BMW never offered a flip key from the factory for most of these cars, but aftermarket flip-style units became a popular replacement for the original fixed-blade keys. This one packs four buttons (lock, unlock, trunk and panic on most configurations), a folding two-track blade and the electronics for the EWS immobiliser into a single, pocket-friendly unit. Why choose a flip key over a like-for-like replacement? Mostly comfort. The blade folds away, so nothing jabs your leg, and the case is often sturdier than a twenty-year-old original. Function is the same: it locks, unlocks and starts the car once properly set up. Setup has two parts. The blade is cut to your car on our code machine.
