Lincoln owners tend to forget that their fob holds a key at all, and it often surfaces only after a battery dies in an underground parkade. This is the emergency key for the Ford and Lincoln smart fobs of 2011 to 2020, the blade that sits inside the fob and comes out when you press its release. Ford and Lincoln share the design, and the Lincoln fobs simply add the brand badge. Its job is narrow: open the driver's door when nothing electronic works. It cannot start the vehicle. Some Lincolns hide the door keyhole under a cap on the handle, which you pry off with the blade's tip; the owners manual shows where. There is nothing to program. We cut the blade to your door lock from code or by copying an existing one, then try it in your fob to make sure it latches. If a blade has been missing for a while, consider testing the door lock afterwards, because cylinders that never get used can seize.
