Some people want a safe with no batteries to fail. The USCAN Eagle SB-01C uses a UL listed Lagard mechanical combination lock, the dial kind, so it opens whether or not there is power. It is certified as a UL 1037 Residential Security Container and carries a UL Class 350 one hour fire rating, meaning documents inside are protected for an hour with the interior kept below 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The door is 2 inches thick and the body 3 inches. A glass relocker sits behind the lock: if someone attacks it, the glass breaks and fires extra bolts that keep the door shut. Three fixed bolts on the hinge side stop the door being pried off even if the hinges are cut. Inside is one adjustable shelf. The grey finish is understated, the three spoke chrome handle is easy to use, and anchoring hardware is included so the safe can be bolted to the floor.
