Superlock is a category of multi-point steel security doors common in Israeli, European, and Russian residential construction, increasingly seen in high-end Greater Vancouver renovations. The defining features are a steel-plate door (3-5 mm), a 5-point or 9-point locking bar that engages the frame at top, sides, and bottom simultaneously, and a high-security cylinder typically Mul-T-Lock or Medeco at the heart of the system.
The result is an entry door rated against forced entry that's 5-10 times more resistant to kick-in or pry-bar attack than a standard wood-and-deadbolt setup. Common installs are penthouse condos, high-net-worth residences, and any property where the owner wants residential aesthetics with commercial-grade resistance.
Single key turn engages 5-9 deadbolts simultaneously into the frame at top, sides, and bottom. Far more force-resistant than a single-bolt deadbolt. Locking bar is steel, riding inside the door body — pry attacks at the deadbolt face don't help.
Door is steel construction with insulating core, typically 3-5 mm exterior plate. Painted to match wood-grain or solid finishes — visually indistinguishable from a high-end residential door. Weight is significantly higher than a wood door, requires reinforced hinges.
Heart of the system is a high-security restricted-keyway cylinder. Mul-T-Lock MT5+, Mul-T-Lock Interactive+, or Medeco M3 are common. Pick-resistant, drill-resistant, and key control via authorized-dealer registry. No key copies without owner signature.
Door is only as good as the frame. Superlock frames are steel with welded reinforcement at hinge sites and strike points. Hinges are heavy-duty with security pins to defeat hinge-pull attacks. The whole assembly is engineered as a system.
Yes, but it's a significant install. The frame typically needs replacement to take the steel reinforcement, and the door weight requires hinge upgrades. Plan for a half-day install on a single-door retrofit. Costs run $3,500-$8,000 installed depending on door size and cylinder selection.
Same as any Mul-T-Lock or Medeco — the cylinder is removed from the door body, brought to a bench, and rekeyed with a new pin/sidebar combination. Restricted keyways require an authorization key card and a written signature for any new key copies. We are an authorized dealer for both platforms.
Many models are. Look for ULC labels indicating 20-, 45-, or 90-minute fire ratings. If your install is a condo or any building requiring fire-rated entry hardware under BC Building Code, specify the rating during the order. Not all Superlock doors are fire-rated by default.
Cylinder rekeys and emergency lockouts require an authorized dealer (us). Day-to-day care — keeping the multi-point locking bar lubricated with a graphite-based lubricant, checking the strike alignment annually — you can do yourself. Most service issues come from the locking bar drifting out of alignment over years of use.
