Locksmith Kitsilano

This is not a dispatch number with a Kitsilano postcode attached to it. Safe and Secure Locksmith has an actual shop, at 4105 Macdonald St, Vancouver, BC V6L 2P1, on the corner block of Macdonald between West 25th and King Edward. You can walk in.

At the counter we cut keys while you wait, sell and fit locks, hold blanks for the common residential and commercial keyways, program car keys and fobs, and run a safe showroom. Street parking runs along Macdonald and the side streets, and the shop is a short walk from the West King Edward and Macdonald bus stops. A mobile technician reaches Kitsilano addresses inside the 20 to 30 minute band we quote for the west side, and usually a good deal sooner, because the truck starts here.

Keys cut while you wait

House, office, padlock, cabinet and mailbox keys. A blank is $4.75 and a standard cut is $5-$15; specialty and commercial blanks are $8-$30. Locks bought, advised on and fitted

Bring the old lock or a photograph of the door and we will tell you what actually fits, which is a shorter conversation in person than on the phone. Stock is listed under locks, with high-security options on high-security locks.

Car keys and fobs

Drive to the shop and we cut and program at the kerb, or we come to the car. Blanks, shells and fobs are in automotive keys.

Rekeys dropped off

Take the cylinders out yourself and bring them in, and a rekey is cheaper than a call-out. Rekeying is $25-$45 per cylinder with two keys included.

Being local means the neighbourhood knows what we are actually like, so here is what we see most.

Kits Beach, Cornwall and Point Grey Road

Character houses from the 1910s and 1920s, many still on mortise cases and rim locks. The frequent fault is a door swollen out of its strike rather than a failed cylinder, and that is a repair rather than a replacement.

West 4th, West Broadway and the Macdonald corridor

Retail and studio units above and behind the shopfronts. Storefront cylinders, closers, panic hardware and after-hours staff rekeys, usually the same day because we are five minutes away.

Arbutus, Trafalgar, Balsam and Vine

Detached houses and duplex conversions with a lot of basement suites, which makes turnover rekeys the steady work. Front, back, garage and gate keyed alike in one visit is the standard ask.

Jericho, West Point Grey and the Endowment Lands

UBC campus
