Honda key and fob replacement in Vancouver

Honda is the make we cut most keys for in this city, and the split is simple. A blade transponder key for an older Civic, Accord, CR-V, Pilot or Odyssey is $180-$280 cut and programmed. A proximity smart key for the newer Civic, Accord, CR-V, HR-V and Pilot is $280-$420. All keys lost starts from $180.

The newer cars use a high-security sidewinder blade, which needs a different cutter from the one most shops carry. We carry it, so the key is cut at the car rather than ordered. Most Vancouver calls are 20 to 30 minutes from the shop at 4105 Macdonald St. Published bands are on the price list, and the car key replacement page covers the rest.

Civic

Blade transponder through the ninth generation, proximity from the tenth. The Civic is also the Honda whose ignition wafers wear first.

Accord

Blade transponder on the older cars, proximity from the ninth generation. Sidewinder blade on the recent ones.

CR-V and HR-V

CR-V runs the blade key until the current generation then moves to proximity. HR-V has been proximity since launch here.

Pilot, Odyssey, Ridgeline and Passport

Blade transponder on the older vans and trucks, proximity on the current ones. Sliding-door and tailgate functions are tested with the key.

Fit, Insight, Element and CR-Z

Blade transponder throughout, with flip keys on some years. Broken flip springs are repaired the same visit.

What a Honda key costs, dealer or locksmith

Published figures only. A Honda dealer key is ordered to the dealership, which means the car has to get there.

Proximity smart key

Service call

The service call is $75 in standard hours. Evening work from 5 to 9 pm is $150 of labour, and $250/hour from 9 pm to 8:30 am.

The Civic key that turns halfway

Past roughly 150,000 km the wafers in a Civic or Accord cylinder wear and the key starts to bind. Owners jiggle it for months before it stops entirely. We rebuild or replace the cylinder and, where the lock allows, key it to the key you already have. That work sits on the ignition repair page.

Proximity fobs lost away from the car

CR-V and Odyssey fobs go missing at trailheads and in long-stay parking. With no key left we read the immobiliser and write a fresh credential at the vehicle, then void the one that is gone.

Sidewinder blades

The newer high-security blade cannot be cut on a standard machine. Ours is on the van, cut from the code or traced from your working key.

Acura

Acura keys are Honda keys with a different badge. Acura is Honda's luxury division and the two share immobiliser families, blade profiles and programming route. An MDX or RDX takes a blade transponder on the older cars and a proximity smart key on the newer ones, exactly as a Pilot does. TLX and Integra are proximity only. TL and TSX are blade only, and they are the Acuras whose ignition wafers wear out first.
