Acura key and fob replacement in Vancouver

An Acura key is a Honda key with a different badge on it, which is why we can cut and program one at the roadside instead of sending you to a dealer. A cut and programmed transponder key for a pre-2014 TL, TSX, MDX or RDX is $180-$280. A proximity smart key for a TLX, Integra or a current MDX is $280-$420. If every key is gone, all keys lost starts from $180 and the final figure depends on the immobiliser we have to rewrite.

We work out of the shop at 4105 Macdonald St and reach most Vancouver addresses in 20 to 30 minutes. Bring the car to the counter or we come to it. Full figures sit on the price list, and the wider car key replacement page covers the makes we do not have a page for.

Acura models, years and key types

MDX, 2001 to 2013

Honda-format transponder blade. Cut from the key code and written to the immobiliser at the car. Transponder key $180-$280.

MDX and RDX, 2014 onward

Proximity smart key with push-button start. Programmed through the OBD port, then tested on start, lock, unlock and tailgate. Proximity smart key $280-$420.

TLX and Integra

Proximity only from launch. A second fob cut alongside your working one is a spare smart key at $300-$420.

TL and TSX, 1996 to 2014

Transponder blade only. These are the Acuras whose ignition wafers wear out past about 200,000 km, so the key job and an ignition job often arrive together.

ILX and RLX

ILX shares the Civic key platform, RLX the proximity system. Both are cut and paired on site with no tow.

What an Acura key costs, dealer or locksmith

Every figure below is from our published price list. A dealer key for the same car has to be ordered to the dealership, which normally means a tow on top.

Transponder key, cut and programmed

$180-$280 for the older TL, TSX, MDX and RDX blade key, including the immobiliser write.

Proximity smart key

$280-$420 for MDX, RDX, TLX and Integra push-button fobs.

Spare cut beside a working key

$180-$240 for a transponder spare, $300-$420 for a smart-key spare. Cheaper than a first-time replacement because nothing has to be recovered.

All keys lost

From $180. We deauthorise the missing key so it can no longer start the car, then write a fresh one.

Service call

$75 in standard hours. After-hours labour starts at $150 from 5 to 9 pm and runs $250/hour from 9 pm to 8:30 am, quoted before we roll.

Worn ignition wafers on the TL and TSX

High-mileage TL and TSX ignitions bind before they fail outright. The key goes in, turns halfway and stops. We replace the cylinder and, where the lock allows, key it to the key you already carry so you keep one key for doors and ignition. That work is on the ignition repair page.

Push-button start that does nothing

On a 2014 or newer MDX and RDX the usual cause is the fob, not the car: a flat cell, a cracked case or a fob that has lost sync. We test the fob first and only quote a replacement once we have ruled the cheap fix out.

Every key gone

All keys lost on an Acura means pulling the key code, cutting a blade and writing a new credential into the immobiliser. We do it at the car with proof of ownership, never by towing it anywhere.

Honda and Acura share one key platform

Acura is Honda's luxury division and the two use the same immobiliser families, the same blade profiles and the same programming route.
