The Volvo flip key, and how we set one up.
If your Volvo key folds out and has five buttons, lock, unlock, trunk, panic and lights, it is likely the LQNP2T-APU remote. This is Ilco's aftermarket replacement for that key, with a Megamos ID48 chip, a 315 MHz transmitter and a CR2032 battery. The folding blade is included, and the record lists part numbers 31253386 and 8688799 and the KLN-BS6 6NN-P test key.
The lights button is the one people forget. It switches on the approach lights from a distance, which is handy on a dark street.
Why aftermarket? Original Volvo flip remotes for these years are increasingly scarce, and a quality Ilco unit made for the same FCC ID gives you the same functions once it has been programmed.
The blade is the internally milled Volvo profile, cut on our code machine. The chip and remote are then programmed to the car with diagnostic equipment, with the vehicle present and its registration and your photo ID in hand. If every key is lost, we cut to code and program at the car.
Check the frequency against your current key if you can. Volvos sold in other markets may use a different one.
