The Mazda smart key, and how we set one up.
The w/ Hatch in the name is the key detail. Mazda built CX-7 and CX-9 smart keys in more than one layout, and this one has a dedicated liftgate button alongside lock, unlock and panic. On a CX-9 with a power liftgate, that button opens the hatch from across a parking lot. This listing covers the 2010 to 2015 model years. Both SUVs use Mazda's advanced keyless system, so you start them from the dash with the fob in a pocket. A small auxiliary blade slides out of the fob for the door when the battery is dead. If your fob is lost, broken or no longer detected even with a new battery, this is the replacement. We register it to the SUV with diagnostic equipment, which needs the vehicle on site, and cut the auxiliary blade to the door lock. Proof of ownership and photo ID are required. Large families and busy schedules mean CX-9 keys go missing more than most. A spare made from one working key is the quicker route, and with every key gone we still make one at the vehicle.
