The Fiesta of these years was sold as both a sedan and a hatchback with a turn-key ignition on most trims, and the key that went with it was a remote head key: a fixed blade under a rubber-buttoned head. This three-button version covers lock, unlock and the trunk or hatch, and suits Fiestas that never had the four-button head with a panic button. Fords from this era need two things done to a new key. The blade gets cut, and the chip gets programmed so the immobiliser accepts it. Then the remote is paired. All of it happens with the car on site, so plan to drive it in or book a mobile call. Have your registration and photo ID at hand. A clue that you are due: the blade starts to spin slightly in the head, or the plastic around the key ring hole snaps. A new key solves both.
