Side-mill is the blade style here: the cuts are milled into the flat face of the blade along a wavy track, instead of being notched into the edges like an older Ford key. Ford and Lincoln moved a lot of turn-ignition vehicles to this blade in the 2010s, and if your key has that internal track, this is the matching shell. A shell is just the housing and the uncut blade, with no transponder inside. It is for keys whose plastic head has cracked, split or come loose from the blade while the chip itself is still fine. We take the chip out of your old key, seat it in the new head, and cut the side-mill blade to your vehicle on our machine. Because it is the same chip, the car recognises it and there is normally nothing to program. Side-mill blades need a machine that cuts that track accurately. A badly cut one will go into the lock but bind halfway through the turn, which is hard on the ignition. Ours are cut by code or duplicated from a good original. If your chip is lost or the key no longer starts the vehicle, choose the complete transponder key instead.
