Not every Renegade has a folding key. Trims with keyless go use this 3-button proximity fob instead, with lock, unlock and panic. The Renegade's hatch opens from the button on the hatch itself, so this layout is common. If a new battery does not bring yours back, the board is likely gone, and a new fob is needed. We set it up in two steps. The emergency key inside the fob is cut to your driver's door so you can get in on a dead battery. Then the fob is programmed to the Renegade through its diagnostic port, which means the vehicle has to be present along with its registration and the owner's photo ID.
