Worn keys are the usual reason the 01007LD ends up on our cutting machine. Sargent locks are built to run for decades, which means the keys that operate them often outlive their usefulness long before the cylinder does. Rounded cuts, a polished tip and a key that only works if you jiggle it are all signs that duplicating it as it stands will copy the problem too. The LD part of the name is Sargent's keyway designation. Keys in other sections of the same family, such as LA or LE, will not enter an LD cylinder because the side grooves are milled differently. For a key in decent shape, we trace it on a duplicator and finish the edges cleanly. For a tired key we can usually decode the cuts, read what the depths should have been, and cut a fresh one on our code machine so it sits at full depth in every position.
