Volkswagen key and fob replacement in Vancouver

A blade transponder key for an older Jetta, Golf, Passat or Tiguan is $180-$280 cut and programmed. A KESSY proximity fob for an Atlas, Taos, ID.4 or a newer Jetta and Tiguan is $280-$420. All keys lost starts from $180 and rises with the immobiliser generation, because the component security data has to be recovered before a fresh key will take.

We carry the VAG programmer and the blanks in the van, so nothing has to be ordered or towed. Most Vancouver calls are 20 to 30 minutes from the shop at 4105 Macdonald St. Published figures are on the price list, and the car key replacement page covers every other make.

Jetta

Blade transponder for most of its run, KESSY proximity on the newest cars. The Jetta is the Volkswagen we cut most keys for in Vancouver.

Tiguan

Blade transponder on the first generation, proximity from the second. The later Tiguan needs the component security data read before a new fob will take.

Golf and GTI

Blade and flip keys on the older cars, proximity on the newer ones. The Golf is also where the electronic steering lock shows up.

Atlas, Taos and ID.4

KESSY proximity throughout. Programmed at the kerb, with the lost fob disabled as part of the job. No high-voltage work on the ID.4.

Passat

Blade transponder on most of the range. Older Passat cylinders wear and seize, which arrives as a key complaint.

The service call in standard hours is $75. Labour after 5 pm is $150 until 9 pm, then $250/hour to 8:30 am.

Steering locks, seized cylinders and dead KESSY fobs

The Jetta that recognises the key and will not start

The electronic steering lock is a known Volkswagen failure and it blocks the start with a perfectly good key in your hand. Replacing the key changes nothing. We read the fault at the car before quoting so you do not pay for the wrong part.

Passat and Golf cylinders

Older cylinders seize at the wafers and trap the key. We extract, replace and key it to your existing key where the lock allows; that work is ignition repair.

KESSY fobs that stopped transmitting

Usually a flat cell, occasionally lost sync. Both are quick fixes and both are worth ruling out before anyone quotes you a fob.

Audi

Audi and Volkswagen are one group and share the immobiliser generations, the blanks and the programmer. An A4 Advanced Key and a Tiguan KESSY fob are the same class of job, which keeps Audi keys in the $280-$420 proximity band rather than the European luxury one.
