Audi immobilisers are generational. An older A4 or A3 blade key is a transponder job at $180-$280. An Advanced Key proximity fob for a Q5, Q7, Q8, e-tron or a current A4 is $280-$420. All keys lost starts from $180 and rises with the immobiliser generation, because the security data has to be read out of the cluster or the ECU before anything can be written back.

Electronic steering lock failure

On A4 and A6 cars roughly 2005 to 2012 the electronic steering lock is a known failure. The dash lights, the key is recognised, and the column simply will not release. Replacing a key does nothing for it. We read the fault at the car before quoting so you are not paying for a key you did not need.

Seized ignition cylinders

Pre-2010 A4 and A6 cylinders wear at the wafers and eventually trap the key. We extract it, replace the cylinder and key it to your existing key where the lock allows. That job lives on the ignition repair page.

Most dead proximity fobs are a flat cell or lost sync, not a failed fob. We test before we sell.
