The Dodge transponder key, and how we set one up.
Around 2001, Chrysler started putting transponders in the keys of more of its vehicles, including many Grand Cherokees, Libertys, Dakotas, Durangos, Rams and minivans. The Y165 is a common blank for that period, a fixed blade with a black plastic head and a chip inside, no remote buttons. You can often identify a Y165 by its chunky head and edge-cut blade, but because Chrysler used several similar blanks in the same years, matching it to your vehicle is the safer approach. Ask us to confirm for your trim/year, or bring the key in. Chrysler's immobiliser usually requires a PIN to add a key, which our programming equipment can retrieve. With one working key, the process is quick; with none, we decode the lock, cut from code and program a new key at the vehicle. What people tend to notice first when these keys fail: the security light on the dash blinking, the engine starting for a second and dying, or the head separating from the blade after years on a heavy ring.
