Older Volvo transponder keys tend to fail at the plastic, not the electronics. The head cracks along the seam, the blade loosens, and eventually the chip falls out in a coat pocket. This shell exists for exactly that situation on 1996 to 2004 Volvos: it is the outer case and a fresh blade on the HU56 keyway, with no chip or board inside. Because it is empty, it only becomes a working key once we move the transponder from your old key into it. Bring the damaged key, even if it is in pieces, as long as you still have the chip. We transfer it, cut the new blade to match your locks, and since the car already knows that chip, there is usually nothing to program afterwards. If the chip is lost, a shell will not help; you need a complete transponder key, which we also supply and program. Not sure whether your key uses HU56?
