Honda and Acura keys from these years have a rubber-coated head that gets tacky, splits and eventually peels off the plastic underneath. When that happens, the chip inside is exposed and easy to lose. A shell replacement solves it before it becomes a non-starting car. This shell is the housing and an uncut blade for Honda and Acura plain transponder keys, 2002 to 2012, with no chip inside. We open your old key, lift the transponder out and seat it in the new head. Then we cut the blade to your ignition on our code machine and test that the car starts. The immobiliser sees the same chip it always has, so no programming is needed. How to tell it is the right shell: your key has no buttons, the head is roughly the same shape as the photos, and the car is a Honda or Acura in this range. Honda used different blades on some models, so ask us to confirm for your trim/year if you have any doubt. If the chip has already fallen out and is lost, a shell is not the answer. That calls for a full transponder key, programmed to the car, which we also do.
