MIT14 is Ilco's cross-reference for this Mitsubishi key, and if you look at the old one closely you may find that code or a similar stamp on the head. Inside sits a Texas ID 4D-61 chip, the immobiliser chip Mitsubishi relied on for several models in the mid-2000s. There are two ways to have it done. Key cutting only gives you a blade that opens the doors and trunk but will not start the engine, which some people want for a valet or a lockbox. Cut and program is the full version: the blade is cut and the chip is set up so the ignition accepts it. For programming, the car is part of the job.
