The Mazda transponder key, and how we set one up.
MZ34 is the Mazda keyway that took over in the early 2000s, used on the Mazda3, Mazda6, Tribute and others, and you can usually spot it by the narrow edge-cut blade on a plain black head. This listing is the shell for that key: housing and blade, no transponder chip.
Who buys this? Someone whose key still starts the car but is physically falling apart. The head splits, the blade gets loose, or a dog has had a chew. Your chip is the part the car cares about, and it is almost always fine, so we move it into this case and cut the blade.
No programming is involved, which keeps it simple, but check that your chip is actually still there before you order. Mazda transponders in this period sit loose in a cavity in the head, and if the head has been open for a while the chip may already be gone. If it is, you need a new key programmed to the car instead.
