The Mazda flip key, and how we set one up.
Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-7, CX-9 and other models of this decade used a three-button folding key: lock, unlock and trunk or liftgate, with the blade springing out at the press of a side button. If you have this key, you likely know its weak spot. The pivot inside the body wears and eventually the blade either will not lock open or will not fold back. In winter, a weak coin cell can also make the remote feel unreliable. A full flip key is the right buy when the remote is not working, the key is lost, or you want a proper spare that both starts the car and operates the locks. If your electronics are fine and only the case or hinge is broken, a shell is an option instead. Once cut to your locks, the new key's chip is learned by the immobiliser and the remote is set up. The vehicle has to be present for that, along with registration and photo ID. Mazda keys can usually be added more easily when you have at least one working key.
