The Volkswagen flip key, and how we set one up.
The first-generation Touareg is a heavy, complicated SUV, and its key is part of that. The folding key carries four buttons, typically lock, unlock, tailgate and panic, with the blade swinging out from the side. Inside sits the transponder that the immobiliser checks and the remote board that handles the locks.
Touaregs of these years used immobiliser and comfort systems that are tied to the vehicle's modules, and programming a new key requires diagnostic access with the vehicle present. Some versions also had keyless entry; ask us to confirm for your trim and year before ordering so we supply the right board.
The blade is the Volkswagen-Audi internal-cut style, which we cut on our code machine from your existing key or from code. A flip key with a cracked housing but working electronics may be saved with a new shell; a lost key needs a full unit like this.
