Mazda's four-button flip key adds a trunk or hatch release to the lock, unlock and panic buttons on the three-button version. It covers a longer run of years, through 2011, and suits Mazda6 sedans, hatchbacks and wagons and RX-8s that came with the extra function. Why not just buy the cheaper three-button key? Because the car expects to find a trunk function, and a mismatched board leaves that button dead or may not pair at all. Count the buttons on your current key before ordering. A familiar story at the counter: the blade has started flopping because the hinge spring is tired, and then one day it folds while turning the ignition and snaps. If your remote still works, a new flip shell may be enough. If the key is lost, or the chip is damaged, this full key is the fix. We cut the blade to your car on a code machine, then program the transponder and the remote to the Mazda. The car, the registration and your photo ID all need to be there.
