The Lexus emergency key blade, and how we set one up.
Inside nearly every Lexus smart fob from 2005 to 2020 there is a small metal key, and it is easy to forget it exists until the day you need it. Press the release on the fob, slide it out, and that blade is what opens the driver's door when the fob battery has died or the car battery is flat and the doors will not respond. Owners usually come to us after losing that insert, snapping its tip in a frozen lock, or buying a used Lexus that came with a fob but an empty blade slot. It is purely mechanical. There is no chip in it and no transmitter, so it will not start the car and there is nothing to program. The work is cutting it precisely, either from your existing blade or by code, so it turns the door cylinder smoothly. Bring the fob along so we can check the blade seats properly in its slot, since the insert style varies across the years and models in this range.
