Some Volkswagens of this era have a flip key that looks ordinary but also works as a keyless key: you can leave it in a pocket, open the doors by the handle and start the car with a button. That system is called passive entry, push start, or PEPS, and a key built for it has different electronics from the regular flip key. On the outside the two can be nearly identical, which causes plenty of wrong orders. The way to tell: if your car has a start button and lets you in without pressing the fob, you need this version. If you twist the key in the ignition, you need the standard flip key listed separately. Both have lock, unlock, trunk and panic buttons and a folding blade. To set it up we cut the blade to your door lock and program the key into the car's keyless and immobiliser systems with the vehicle present.
