The second-generation Touareg was VW's flagship SUV, and its key reflects that: a proximity smart key that unlocks the doors at the handle and lets the engine start from the button. The four buttons cover lock, unlock, the power tailgate and panic, and a mechanical key hides inside for emergencies. Touareg keys are tied closely to the vehicle's security system, so a new one has to be registered to the car, not just paired like a basic remote. We do that with the SUV present. Then we cut the hidden key to your driver's door so you have a way in if the fob dies on a ski weekend. Registration and photo ID are needed.
