Not every recent F-Series is a push button truck. The trims that kept a turn key from 2015 to 2022 came with this four button flip key, where the blade folds into the fob and snaps out on a spring when you press the release. It is a PATS key, meaning the transponder inside the fob has to be written to Ford's immobiliser before the truck will run, and the four buttons pair separately for lock, unlock and the two remaining functions, usually remote start and panic. Three jobs happen at once when we supply one: the blade is cut, the transponder is registered, and the remote is paired, all at the truck. The flip mechanism is where this style fails. Years of flicking the blade out wear the hinge pin, the blade develops side play, and eventually the spring stops throwing it open; the electronics are normally fine at that stage. That is the case for a flip key shell, an empty case with a fresh blank blade, into which we move your transponder and remote board and cut the new blade to match the old one, with no programming needed.
