Acura redesigned the TLX for 2021, and the second-generation car uses a slim proximity key with four buttons, typically lock, unlock, trunk and panic. If your TLX has remote start, check that your original fob does not carry a different layout and ask us to confirm for your trim. The key stays in your pocket or bag; the car senses it when you touch the door handle and when you press the start button. Inside is a short mechanical blade for the driver's door, used when the fob's battery gives out. People most often come to us after losing a key, or because the only fob left has been through the wash or dropped one too many times and now works intermittently. We cut the blade to your lock and register the new fob with the TLX on site, which means the car has to be present along with your registration and photo ID. A second key added while one still works takes fewer steps than recovering from no keys at all. If you are unsure whether a dead fob is just the battery, swap the coin cell first; it is often the whole fix.
