Lexus key and fob replacement in Vancouver

Lexus adopted proximity keys earlier than almost anyone, so most of the Lexus fleet in Vancouver is already on a smart key. A proximity smart key for an RX, ES, NX, IS, GX, UX, LS, LX, LC or RC is $280-$420 cut and programmed. The older blade transponder cars are $180-$280. All keys lost starts from $180.

Because Lexus sits on the Toyota platform, the same tooling covers both and the price stays out of the European band. Most Vancouver calls are 20 to 30 minutes from the shop at 4105 Macdonald St. Published figures are on the price list; the car key replacement page is the cross-make view.

Blade transponder on the first two generations, proximity from the third. The RX is the Lexus we cut most keys for in this city.

ES

Blade transponder early, proximity from the sixth generation. Older ES cylinders wear at the wafers and start sticking.

NX and UX

Proximity only from launch. Programmed at the kerb with push start, lock, unlock and boot verified before we go.

IS and RC

IS starts on a blade transponder and moves to proximity; RC is proximity throughout.

GX, LX, LS and LC

Blade transponder on the older GX and LX, proximity on everything current. All-keys-lost is handled at the vehicle.

What a Lexus key costs, dealer or locksmith

$280-$420 cut and paired for RX, ES, NX, IS, GX, UX, LS and LX.

Blade transponder key

$180-$280 for the older RX, ES, IS and GX.

$300-$420 proximity, $180-$240 blade.

From $180. The immobiliser is reset at the car and the missing fob is voided.

Service call

Standard hours are billed with a $75 service call. Evenings from 5 to 9 pm add $150 of labour, and overnight is $250/hour.

Cold-weather fob failures and worn Lexus cylinders

The fob that stops working in January

A proximity cell that was marginal in September gives up in the cold. The car reads it as no key present. We replace and resync at the kerb, which is a fraction of the cost of a new fob.

Sticking keys on the older ES and IS

Worn wafers make the key bind before the cylinder fails outright. We replace the cylinder and key it to your existing key where the lock allows; that work is ignition repair.

Programming after the car has lost power

A Lexus that has sat with a flat 12 volt battery sometimes needs the key relearned rather than replaced. Worth ruling out first.
