The Acura emergency key blade, and how we set one up.
Acura's smart keys from 2009 to 2015 all carry a slim metal key inside, released by a small catch on the fob, and this is a replacement for that piece. Owners usually discover it is missing at the worst moment: the fob battery has died, the car will not respond, and the slot inside the fob is empty. The blade has no chip and no remote, so it does one thing only. It opens the driver's door by hand. The engine still needs the smart key to start, which Acura handles with a backup method for a weak fob described in your owner's manual. Because it is purely mechanical, there is nothing to program and the car does not need to be present. We cut it to your door lock by code, or from the existing key if you have one. Code cutting is useful when the original has been lost, since the blade comes out at factory depth. Before ordering, check that the blade fits into your fob; Acura used more than one style. Bring your fob to 4105 Macdonald St and we can confirm it fits.
