The tenth generation Accord, 2018 to 2022, is a push button car, and this five button smart key is its fob. Honda moved the Accord to proximity in the ninth generation according to our Honda page, so by this model the fob is the only key most owners ever handle: it stays in a pocket, the door unlocks when you touch the handle, and the engine starts on the button. Five buttons on an Accord fob usually means lock, unlock, trunk, remote start and panic, and we confirm the legend on the unit we have in stock when you call. The part of this key that still gets cut is the emergency blade tucked inside the fob, and on the recent Accord that blade is a sidewinder, the high security profile milled down the centre of the blade. Most shops cannot cut one; we carry the cutter on the van, so the blade is cut from the code or traced from your existing key rather than ordered. The fob's transponder and remote are written to the immobiliser together, and if no working fob exists we read the immobiliser first, write a fresh credential and void the fob that is missing, which is a longer appointment than adding a spare. A shell is the case alone, and it is the right purchase only when your present fob still works and the housing or buttons have failed. The common complaint on this style starts with the low battery warning on the instrument cluster and ends with the Accord starting only when the fob is pressed against the start button. A new cell and a resync usually clear it, and it is worth trying before replacing the fob.
