Y164 is the Chrysler-group blank code for the plain transponder key, the one with a black head and no buttons. Inside sits an ID46 chip, the immobiliser chip Chrysler used on turn-key vehicles across this long range. It is the simplest working key you can have for these vehicles: it starts the engine and opens the doors, with no remote functions. That simplicity is the point for a lot of buyers. It makes a low-cost valet or spare key, a key for a second driver who uses a separate fob, or a replacement for a remote head key whose remote you never used. We cut the blade on a code machine, copying your key or cutting by code. The chip is then programmed to the vehicle, which needs to be present with its registration and your photo ID. If you have a working key, that is the short version of the process; if you have none, we decode the lock and program a key from scratch at the vehicle. Check that your vehicle turns a key to start. On Chrysler-group vehicles with a fob that pushes into the dash, this key will not work.
