With a Lexus smart key, the car does the work: it senses the fob in your pocket, unlocks when you grab the handle, and starts at the push of a button. This four-button version adds a trunk release to lock, unlock and panic, and fits a range of Lexus sedans and SUVs from 2005 to 2008. Different models used different fobs, so ask us to confirm for your trim and year. Every Lexus smart key carries a small mechanical key inside. Slide the release, pull it out, and you have a way into the driver's door when the fob cell has died. That blade has no chip, and we cut it to your lock on our code machine. The fob's electronics are registered to the car with diagnostic equipment, with the Lexus present. Registration and photo ID are needed. A second key added while one still works is the routine version; if all keys are lost, we do the full job at the car. A tip for winter: if the car suddenly will not recognise the key, hold the fob right against the start button. Lexus designs allow a weak fob to be read at close range, which gets you home to change the battery.
