The Chrysler remote head key, and how we set one up.
A mid-2000s Commander, Grand Cherokee or 300 owner usually knows this key on sight: a Chrysler-group turn key with four buttons on a rubber-faced head. Lock, unlock and panic are standard; the fourth controls the liftgate or remote start, depending on what the vehicle was ordered with.
The board inside must match. A remote start board will not behave correctly on a vehicle set up for a liftgate button, and vice versa. Ask us to confirm for your trim and year or bring your old key so we can match it.
What to bring: the vehicle, its registration, your photo ID, and every key you have, even a damaged one. We cut the blade on a code machine, then program the transponder and the remote to the vehicle. If none of your keys survive, the job starts with decoding the lock, and we finish it at the vehicle the same way.
The weak points on this design are the rubber cover, which splits after years of thumb pressure, and the joint between blade and head. If the electronics are fine, a shell can save you the programming step.
