Mazdas from the 2006 to 2008 model years often came with a folding key: a spring-loaded blade that swings out of a remote body carrying lock, unlock and trunk buttons. When you press the side button, the blade should snap out cleanly and lock in place. The usual complaint is not the electronics but the hinge. After a few years the pivot pin wears, the blade wobbles or will not stay open, and some owners end up holding the blade on with tape. Others drop the key and crack the body around the battery. If the circuit board in your current key still works and only the case is broken, a shell may be enough.
