The Volkswagen smart key, and how we set one up.
Passat owners from this decade sometimes ask us why their key does not look like a key. The answer is VW's rectangular fob, which carries lock, unlock, trunk and panic buttons and on most cars slides into a dashboard slot to start the engine. There is a narrow metal blade inside, released by a small catch. That blade opens the driver's door if the fob battery dies, and it is easy to lose. This listing is for the Passat specifically. There is a related key that covers the CC as well. The two can look identical, but the right board depends on your vehicle's year, market and whether it has keyless access. Ask us to confirm for your car. Here is how the job goes. We cut the emergency blade on our code machine to your door lock, then program the fob to the car's immobiliser with the vehicle present. You will need your registration and photo ID, and all keys you still have. Adding a fob while one still works keeps things straightforward. Losing the last one is also something we deal with, but it takes more work.
