The Dodge fobik key, and how we set one up.
Five buttons on a Dodge or Chrysler Fobik generally means two extras on top of lock, unlock and panic: remote start, and either the trunk or the rear liftgate. If your vehicle was built with remote start, a four-button replacement will lock and start the car fine but leave you scraping the windshield on a frosty morning, so match the button count to the original. This 2008 to 2014 Fobik plugs into the dash slot like the others, with the transponder inside read by the ignition module, and carries a removable emergency blade for the door. The blade is cut on our code machine; the fob is programmed through the vehicle's diagnostic port, with the car present. Remote start also depends on the factory system being installed, which a fob alone cannot add. If your car never had remote start, that button simply does nothing. Owners usually come to us after the case splits along its seam or the fob stops being recognised in the ignition. Bring the registration and photo ID; keeping one working fob makes the job simpler.
