Ford transponder keys tend to outlast their own plastic. The chip keeps working long after the head has cracked, the blade has worked loose or the rubber has peeled away, and that is when a shell makes sense. You get a new head and blade, but no chip. We open your old key, move its transponder into the new shell, and cut the blade to match. Because the chip itself has not changed, the vehicle sees the same key it always has, so no programming is involved and the vehicle does not need to come with you. One caution: some Ford keys carry their chip in a way that is hard to remove intact, and if the chip is damaged in a broken key it may need replacing too. We will look at yours and tell you. You also need to match the blade profile, eight-cut or ten-cut, so bring the old key so we can check. If the chip has been lost entirely, choose a complete transponder key rather than a shell, as a shell on its own will open doors but will not start the engine.
