The Honda transponder key, and how we set one up.
For a key that looks so simple, the Honda and Acura transponder key covers an enormous range of vehicles: Civics, Accords, CR-Vs, Elements, Pilots, Fits, and Acura's TSX, TL and RDX, from 2002 to 2018. No buttons, a black head and a fixed blade, with the chip inside. Many owners use this as a cheap, durable spare alongside a remote head key or a separate fob. It starts the car and opens the doors by hand, and with no battery inside there is nothing to go flat. Honda changed its chip generation within this range, so the key must match your car's immobiliser version, even when the blade looks the same. The VIN or your existing key tells us which one fits. Ask us to confirm for your trim/year if you are ordering without bringing the car. When you bring it in, or we come to you, the steps are simple. We cut the blade from your key or by code, connect to the diagnostic port and register the new key. Honda's system re-registers all keys at once on many models, so have every key you use with you. We will need the registration and photo ID, and our counter is on Macdonald Street.
