Mul-T-Lock keyways are patented, so a copy is not something a hardware counter can legally cut. Only an authorized dealer can, and only against the key card issued when the system was set up. In practice that is the whole product. The mechanical security is excellent, but the thing you are actually buying is the ability to answer, on any given day, how many keys to your building exist and who signed for each one.

Interactive+ is the platform most Vancouver commercial and high-end residential installs run on. Each pin in the stack is three concentric pins, so a pick has to align all three layers at once, and a separate sidebar has to be satisfied at the same time. That is two independent authentication axes in one cylinder, not one harder version of the usual axis.

Hardened inserts sit at the shear line and the sidebar, so the standard drill attack does not progress. The keyway profile is patented, so copies come only through the dealer registry.

Where it is the right answer: multi-unit residential, healthcare, financial premises, evidence and server rooms, and any building where an insurer or an auditor asks who holds a key.

MT5 is the newer Mul-T-Lock platform and the one we specify for most new systems. It keeps the telescoping pin principle and adds a different sidebar arrangement plus an alpha spring in the key itself, which gives three independent locking mechanisms rather than two.

Practically, the difference that matters to an owner is lifespan rather than picking. The MT5 patent runs further into the future than the older profiles, so the key control you are paying for lasts longer, and the platform is current, so blanks and cylinders will be available for years yet.

Both platforms support full master keying, and both can be extended into an existing hierarchy rather than replacing it. If you already run Interactive+, you do not have to convert a whole building to add MT5 at the doors that need it most.

Bring: the key card issued at install, and one existing key. A property manager can send written authorization instead of attending, naming the person collecting.

Cost: $30-$80 per key, cut to registered code. Rekeying an existing cylinder to a new combination is $60-$120 per cylinder.

Turnaround: same day at the counter on a stocked profile. Unusual profiles are ordered against the registry.

If the key card is lost: tell us straight away. A reissue is possible after we verify ownership against the original install record, and it is deliberately slower than cutting a key. The card is the document that controls your copies, so a fast reissue would defeat the system you paid for.

How does Interactive+ compare with MT5?

Both are top-tier restricted platforms. Interactive+ uses telescoping pins plus a sidebar; MT5 adds a third locking mechanism in the key and runs on a newer patent, so the key control lasts longer. For a new system we usually specify MT5.

Can I get a Mul-T-Lock key copied in Vancouver?
