A blade transponder key for an older Elantra, Accent, Tucson or Santa Fe is $180-$280 cut and programmed. A proximity smart key for a Kona, Palisade, or a newer Tucson, Elantra or Santa Fe is $280-$420. All keys lost starts from $180.

Elantra

Blade transponder for most of its life, proximity on the newer cars. Elantra cylinders also wear early, so key and ignition calls often arrive together.

Santa Fe

Blade transponder early, proximity from the third generation. Tailgate and remote-start functions are tested with the key.

Sonata

Blade transponder on the older sedans, proximity on the newer ones. A Sonata fob that stops working after a flat battery usually needs a relearn.

Kona, Palisade, Venue and Accent

Kona, Palisade and Venue are proximity. Accent stayed on the blade transponder to the end of its run.

The fob the car stopped seeing

Sonata and Santa Fe proximity fobs can drop out of sync after the 12 volt battery goes flat or is disconnected. The car behaves as though no key is present. A relearn at the vehicle fixes it and costs a fraction of a new fob.

On the newer cars the start button itself can fail, which looks exactly like a key fault from the driver's seat. We test which one it is before quoting.

Elantra ignition wear

Older Elantra cylinders wear quickly for the mileage. A key that sticks is usually the cylinder. That work is ignition repair.
